SCULPTURES
Welcome to Art for the Human Animal. Are you an animal? I am. But I don't make art for ants; I make it for humans. To an ant my art is something to crawl on; to a human my art opens questions of meaning: Who are we? What are we? This is the 21st century, and breakthroughs in science have brought these questions to a whole new level. Our art should do at least that much.
My HYBRIDS are Modern Art, (capital "M"; capital "A"). Search all you like: you won't find them in Bulfinch's Mythology. Each one is specially designed to be a bold reminder of our biological and ethological roots -- whether we're willing to admit them or not. And since that doesn't exactly jive with our fantasy of human uniqueness and superiority, it gets me into lots of trouble.
I often get asked why my HYBRIDS are all male, and it's a fair question. They are all male BECAUSE SOMEBODY HAS TO DO IT. Everywhere I look I see naked ladies. Naked ladies are fine, but they're not exactly my thing. And what's up with elevating the female nude to "art," but relegating the male to pornography? Half of humanity is male, for crying out loud. Get over it.
